Briefly Explained Storyline of the Movie
The Kashmir Files’ is a story, based on video interviews of the first generation victims of the Genocide of the Kashmiri Pandit Community In 1990. The story revolves around Krishna Pandit (Darshan Kumar), a JNU student, who thinks his parents were killed in an accident as told by his grandfather, Pushkar Nath (Anupam Kher). But the truth is more depressing. He is caught in the middle of two opposing narratives of the Kashmiri Pandit exodus of 1990. One side is represented by the pro-Azaadi JNU professor (Pallavi Joshi) who is gaining a lot of support on the campus for her Kashmir cause.
On the other side is Nath, who has been struggling for 30 years to get justice for the exodus, which the professor claims are a sham. After Pushkar Nath’s death, Krishna goes back to Kashmir to fulfill his last wishes and also meets four of Nath’s friends, a journalist, a doctor, a former police officer, and a retired civil servant. They are shocked to know that Krishna didn’t know the true story of his father’s death. The Kashmir Files then becomes a journey of discovering the truth for Krishna.
Conclusion – Why Should We Watch This Movie?
I believe not just every Hindu but every Indian should watch this movie because there is nobody else, no other media source that would show you the true picture about the Kashmir genocide, and being a citizen, we should be aware of it. One must watch The Kashmiri Files to know what had happened in the Kashmir Valley and understand the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits who were killed, brutally tortured, and driven out of their homeland by separatists and pro-Pakistani terrorists. It is also important for us to be aware of the early signs before another such full-fledged movement breaks out and another disputed territory is created within our country.
If you know nothing about the incidents shown in this movie you can still watch it. You’re getting goosebumps for sure. Everything will be on your face. No infusion. If you’ll listen closely to the dialogues, you’ll notice their political context as well. I saw the audience crying at the end, for the first time in a movie theatre. Even when the credits rolled up in the end, no one got up to leave. Everyone was taken aback! It is a really powerful movie with a solid screenplay and stellar acting. It is going to leave a mark on everyone who will watch it.
NOTE – Since Zee Studios produce the picture, the satellite rights are exclusive to Zee Studios, and we may assume that Zee5 also controls the OTT rights, with the film set to premiere on Zee5 shortly.
